Qld: Bonnie freed
GOLD COAST, Aug 22 AAP - The world's largest tiger shark in captivity has been returnedto the sea on the Gold Coast.
The four-metre shark, nicknamed Bonnie, was lifted by crane from a pool at Sea World, put in a boat and then returned to the ocean, well off the coast.
Bonnie was to be the star of a new shark attraction at Sea World, but after an RSPCAinvestigation the theme park agreed to set her free.
Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin helped with the release.
Bonnie was captured by a commercial fisherman off Tweed Heads on July 4.
Experts say she is in good health but don't believe a temporary pool is large enoughto keep her until the new attraction is finished.
Five other large sharks measuring two and three metres long will remain in the temporary pool.
The RSPCA is monitoring their condition.
