Fed: Fuel shortage could halt petrol price cuts
A shortage of fuel is preventing motorists receiving the full benefit of falling world
oil prices.
Oil prices fell to a seven-month low overnight after news that Iraq has resumed supplies
and warmer winter weather had arrived in Europe and North America.
Local petrol prices have already fallen four cents a litre in recent days, but further
falls have been held up by a shortage of supplies.
Hardest hit are New South Wales and Victoria.
Service Stations Association executive director KEVIN HUGHES says there is a shortage
of petrol in Sydney at the moment with Caltex and Shell on limited production.
A Caltex spokeswoman has confirmed supply is restricted in Victoria and New South Wales
due to a break in the Bass Strait pipeline and a problem at the Kurnell refinery in Sydney.
