Fed: Eyes of the world on Australia for Y2K rollover: Campbell
The eyes of the world will be on Australia on New Year's Eve to watch its transition to 2000.
Parliamentary Communications Secretary IAN CAMPBELL says Australia is the first major
western country to undergo the change.
He says Australians and the world could monitor Australia's progress via a website
- www.y2kaustralia.gov.au - launched today.
Senator CAMPBELL says as Australia goes through the date change, it will be eight o'clock
in the morning in New York, and one o'clock in the afternoon in London.
He says there'll be a lot of focus in some of the most heavily Internet-connected nations
on the globe.
The website will enable people to click on to states and industry sectors for status reports.
Colour codes will indicate the situation - green for all-clear, yellow for minor glitches
and red for major failures.
