Fed: Bank staff to strike over bank dissatisfaction

Thousands of bank workers from Westpac, ANZ and the National Australia Bank will walk
off the job for 24-hours tomorrow.

But the banks have stressed to customers that contingency plans are in place to keep
most branches open.

The action by the bank staff comes as two banks hold their shareholder annual general meetings.

Staff in most states are expected to take part in the action, the first in 20 years
to be held across three of the major banks.

In New South Wales however, ANZ staff will hold off their planned stopworks and 24-hour
strikes until Friday, to coincide with the bank's shareholder AGM to be held in Sydney.
